Fire Destroys Holmdel Home On Blue Hills Drive

Today's high winds rapidly spread the fire throughout the entire home, and the home was destroyed. A man and his dogs escaped.

HOLMDEL, NJ — A home on Blue Hills Drive was destroyed by a fire Wednesday afternoon in Holmdel; the homeowner and his two dogs were able to escape the burning structure safely.

However, the day's high winds rapidly spread the fire throughout the entire home, and the home was destroyed, police told Patch. It had to be demolished.

The call was received at 1:31 p.m. and Holmdel Fire and Rescue Company #2 arrived on scene at 1:52 p.m. Upon arrival, fire fighters discovered the home fully engulfed in flames.

"The garage was engulfed first," said Lt. Rob Philhower, who was on the scene today. "That fire tore through that house and the high winds didn't help."

The man has children, who were in school at the time.

It is estimated the Holmdel Fire Department was able to contain the blaze around 3:15 p.m.

“I am extremely thankful for our fabulous volunteers and their quick response,” said Holmdel Township Mayor Eric Hinds. “I am so grateful no one was injured. My heart goes out to the family whose home was impacted, and I urge community members to come together and help our neighbors recover from this loss.”

An investigation is ongoing to determine the source of the fire, but it does not appear suspicious, said Lt. Philhower.
