HAZLET, NJ - The Hazlet Land Use Board will conduct a hearing for New Jersey Natural Gas next month, who has plans to construct a natural gas regulator station in a residential area in the township.

The virtual public hearing will take place on Dec. 3 at 7:00 p.m. to hear the application for the proposed new facility, which is slated to transfer natural gas from a transmission line to distribution lines for customers.

The gas pressure reduction facility is proposed to include an above-ground heater unit, a filter, piping, valves, regulators, a control box and related equipment. According to a municipal notice, the facility will be enclosed by 8-foot-high, chain-link fencing with landscaped buffering and screening along the north, south, east and west sides of the facility enclosure. An 8-foot-high sound wall will also be installed along the east and west sides of the facility.

According to an Asbury Park Press report, over 100 residents showed up to oppose the development at the second hearing. The utility says the new station is needed to “ease the pressure on local gas transmissions and avoid the potential for freezing equipment and loss of service,” per the report.

Members of the public will be able to address the Land Use Board via Zoom, a web-based video conference application, or by telephone.
