Learning to play an instrument should be a fun, enjoyable and rewarding experience for any student. Regardless of age, level or style - music has been a way to self express and de-stress since early humans first began jamming around campfires!
We get calls every week from people interested in starting an instrument, but are afraid they won't "make the cut" or have "the talent". We get many calls from students who have tried the music store music lesson scene and are bored, or stressed by the experience. Let's look at the reality here - it's music! It's supposed to be something you enjoy, not dread.
At Lincroft Music, our philosophy has always been that learning should be fun! All of our students from ages 5 to 85 learn their individual favorite music starting as early as their second lesson. All of our guitar and piano lessons included theory, note reading and proper chords and scales. But this is where we are different - every lesson also includes a song chosen by the student. Most guitar students pick up the instrument because they heard a killer guitar riff or catchy pop tune on the radio that they wanted to learn and this is exactly what we encourage. You will never learn to play music if you can't play through songs, but you can't play the songs without knowing the theory behind the music.
