Update: Person Of Interest Found By Hazlet PD

HAZLET, NJ – The Hazlet Township Police Department has located a person of interest in connection with a June 18 incident at the Hazlet ShopRite.

Hazlet police released a notice on Wednesday alerting residents of an ongoing search for an individual tied to the incident. In a Thursday morning update, the police department announced that the individual, a 16-year-old male from Old Bridge, has been located.

"A few days ago we took to Facebook and asked for your help to identify a subject for an investigation. Because of the tips received, we were able to identify the subject quickly and the Hazlet Police Detective Bureau were able to take into custody a male juvenile, 16, from Old Bridge," the department wrote in a Thursday morning Facebook post.

According to the department, a complaint for juvenile delinquency was prepared and forwarded to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office for fourth degree criminal sexual contact.

While the original alert mentioned that the incident occurred on June 18, the updated post corrected the incident date to July 18.

"Again, we thank you for, not only your continued support, but also your assistance in this investigation," the department wrote.
