Hazlet's Lillian Drive School Goes Virtual Amid Staff Quarantine
"This change is due to multiple mandated staff quarantines which compromises our ability to cover all classes," the district wrote Monday.
HAZLET, NJ - Elementary students at Lillian Drive School in Hazlet will be completing schoolwork strictly online for the next two days amid an influx of teachers under quarantine, according to the school district.
In a Nov. 23 update posted to the district website, officials announced the suspension of in-person classes on Nov. 24 and Nov. 25, a change due to “multiple mandated staff quarantines which compromises our ability to cover all classes.”
Teachers will still be available online during their regularly scheduled hours for any extra help students may need, according to the notice.

“This decision was not made easily. I have heard from a number of LDS personnel, including the principal and the school nurse, who all believe that in order to keep the priorities of health, safety and a quality education at the forefront, transitioning to a virtual format is a prudent move. As shared at the start of the school year, we will take the necessary precautions to keep students, staff, and families safe,” the message continues.

- Staying home when you are sick
- Washing hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds
- Covering coughs and sneezes and properly disposing of tissues
- Limiting close contact with people who are sick and not sharing food, drinks and utensils
- Practicing social distancing (staying at least 6 feet apart)
- Wearing a face covering while in school
- Continuing to monitor your health for symptoms

The district also announced one new COVID-19 case on Monday at Raritan High School.
