Hazlet's Sycamore Drive School Reports Second COVID-19 Case

HAZLET, NJ - Another COVID-19 case has been reported in Hazlet’s public school district, this time at the community’s early childhood learning center.

In a Nov. 25 update posted to the district website, school officials alerted families that an additional COVID-19 case has been identified within the Sycamore Drive Early Childhood Learning Center community.

On Nov. 20, the district reported another case associated with the school building.

“This letter is to inform you that an individual associated with Sycamore Drive Early Childhood Learning Center has tested positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19),” the update reads. “The District is coordinating closely with public health officials and following CDC, state, and local health department guidance in order to assure the health and safety of our community.”

Contact tracing has been completed and all close contacts have been notified and quarantined if appropriate, according to the district.

“Cleaning and disinfecting of all exposed areas and equipment is being carried out,” the update continues.

The school district recommends families to continue following recommended safeguards, such as:

  • Staying home when you are sick
  • Washing hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds
  • Covering coughs and sneezes and properly disposing of tissues
  • Limiting close contact with people who are sick and not sharing food, drinks and utensils
  • Practicing social distancing (staying at least 6 feet apart)
  • Wearing a face covering while in school
  • Continuing to monitor your health for symptoms

On Nov. 23, the district announced a two-day closure of Lillian Drive Elementary School amid “multiple mandated staff quarantines which compromises our ability to cover all classes."
