It's a good day when both teams post a win. The Boys were away today in Manasquan playing on the grass at the Atlantic Club where they earned a 1-0 victory. The game was locked in a scoreless tie until 5 minutes remaining in the second half when senior Jason Kyriacou connected for his 5th goal of the season on a perfect pass from junior Nicholas Zolofra. Sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Marchiano had his 4th shutout of the season.
The Boys Varsity will play next at home on Thursday against cross town rival St. John Vianney at 5 pm (note the earlier time change). The team is now 5-1-0 (4-1-0).
Back at home, the Girls Varsity game had more action but the same result. The girls scored about 15 minutes into the first half on a goal by senior Lizzie Zelina. Manasquan took the ball back down the field and answered quickly with one of their own to even the game at one all. But, that would be it for Mansquan, as the scoring gates were opened for the Hornets. Zelina scored a second goal with just under 20 minutes remaining and senior Jessica Moskal added her 4th goal of the year to put Holmdel up 3-1 to end the first half. Moskal buried another goal in the second half and sophomore Hannah Lee delivered her 4th goal of the season to give Holmdel a dominant 5-1 win. The Girls are a perfect 6-0-0 (5-0-0)! They too face cross town rival St. John Vianney on Thursday at SJV now scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ( This time may also change so check back on Thursday).
Tonight was HYAA girls night at Roggy field. 65 kindergarten and first grade players making up 8 different teams swarmed the field and put on a half time demonstration playing games in small groups. It was fantastic having all of the young players and their families in attendance to cheer the girls on to their victory.
This is an exciting time in Holmdel soccer as both teams are off to amazing starts to the season. It's a great time to be a soccer fan in Holmdel so come on out to a game and support the players. I can't wait to see you there.
