On a Thursday afternoon heavy with threatening gray skies, the Asbury Park Press ranked #2 Holmdel Hornets beat Red Bank Catholic by a score of 3-1. RBC got on the board first, burying the rebound off a deflection by the goalkeeper. Holmdel tied it up on a goal by Sophomore Rohan Gandhi. Senior, Jack Flanagan scored the go ahead goal, his 6th on the year, and Senior, Jason Kyriacou added another, his 8th this season, to give the Hornets the 3-1 win.
Meanwhile, over in Hazlet, Rumson boys beat Raritan in double overtime, to keep them tied with Holmdel for first place in the A Central division. Holmdel's record is now 10-1-1 (8-1-1).
At home under the lights, the Girls played through double overtime and emerged with a 2-2 tie against the RBC girls. Holmdel's record is now 10-1-1(9-0-1).
Senior midfielder, Jessica Moskal opened the scoring on a pass from Sophomore, Gabriella Bair. Moskal, with her 11th goal tonight, leads the Hornets in scoring. Rumson then tied it up on a score from a free kick taken just outside the 18. Holmdel went ahead 2-1 on a Bair to Hannah Lee combination. That was Sophomore Forward, Lee's 7th goal this year. RBC came back and tied it all up late in the second half, sending the game into overtime. RBC is the second place team in the girls A Central division, two games behind first place Holmdel with a divisional record of 7-2-1.
Both Holmdel teams have just two divisional games remaining. The first is Monday, against Manasquan. The Girls play away, at 4 pm, and the Boys are home, at 6:30p.m, at Roggy field. Both teams then face St. John Vianney on Thursday. The end of the regular season is starting to draw near and this next week is an important one. Both teams need to finish strong to lock up their divisions and to conclude with a top record for the Shore Conference Tournament seeding which takes place at the end of next week. Please come out and support our soccer teams. I will see you there.
