The Holmdel Girls Varsity team played Mater Dei in a non-divisional game today. Holmdel came away with the 2-1 victory. Both teams had trouble getting their offense going and the score at the half was 0-0. But, Holmdel came out fired up after the half and scored quickly with a goal by sophomore Hannah Lee. Mater Dei tied it up with a score from the 45 yard line on a free kick. Holmdel then went ahead on a goal by senior Alyssa Cuccurullo, which proved to be enough to win the game. Holmdel's record is now 12-5-1.
Meanwhile, everyone is looking ahead to the Boys Varsity game tomorrow night at 5 pm at Summerfield Fields (Summerfield Elementary School) in Neptune. Holmdel Boys Varsity will play Rumson in the Shore Conference tournament semi-finals.
The NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 2 tournament brackets were announced today. For the first time, both the Holmdel Boys and Girls Varsity teams are the number 1 seed in their respective divisions.
The Girls will play Monday at home versus North Plainfield. The Boys will play Tuesday at home versus Delaware Valley (#16 seed). I will add the times for those games when they become available.
