Holmdel School Superintendent Resigns For Assistant Super Job
McGarry is leaving for a new position as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Technology in Scotch Plains-Fanwood.

HOLMDEL, NJ — On Friday, schools superintendent Dr. Robert McGarry informed the Holmdel Township Board of Education that he is resigning his position, effective August 26 of this year.
McGarry is leaving for a new position as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Technology in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Public School District.
Middletown schools superintendent Dr. William George also quit this spring, to become a higher education professor at Monmouth University.

McGarry was at the helm of Holmdel public schools for the past six years and he oversaw several key initiatives, such as the launch of all-day kindergarten program and renovations to school buildings and sports fields district-wide, financed by the Holmdel 2020 bond referendum.
The "Holmdel 2020" plan came with a tax increase for Holmdel property owners, but a majority of owners voted for Holmdel 2020; it could not have been done without a public referendum vote. The work is expected to be complete this fall.

Under his watch, the Holmdel Township School District received many honors, including certification as a Future Ready District and a High-Performing District by the New Jersey Department of Education.
