Middletown School Superintendent William George Retires

William O. George III will be retiring from public education and taking a new position as an assistant professor at Monmouth University.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — After spending almost a decade as the superintendent of the Middletown Township School District, William O. George III will be retiring from public education and taking a job at Monmouth University, he announced earlier this week.

George announced his retirement on Friday. It will become effective on Sept. 1, 2020.

George served for nine years as superintendent and has spent 33 years in public education as a teacher, coach, mentor and administrator. He will be taking a new position as an assistant professor in the department of educational counseling and leadership at Monmouth University.

“Although the board will take action on my retirement at their May 13 voting meeting, I will remain in my position until September 1,” George wrote. “This will allow me to close out the school year, assist in writing the new strategic plan and provide the board with ample time to find my replacement.”
