Intensive Care Unit At Bayshore Damaged In Fire; Patients Moved
The fire at Bayshore Sunday was small, but the sprinkler system flooded the ICU. 17 patients had to be relocated to different hospitals.

HOLMDEL, NJ — The fire at Bayshore Medical Center early Sunday morning was small, but the sprinkler system caused significant damage, flooding the fourth floor, which is where the hospital's intensive care is located. Patients had to be evacuated and 17 had to be relocated to nearby hospitals.
The fire broke out at 3 a.m. in an employee break room on the fourth-floor intensive care unit (ICU) at Bayshore Medical Center. The fire started in a toaster. While the fire damage was very limited, water from the sprinkler system damaged certain areas of the hospital, Bayshore spokeswoman April Guillerme Dunic said.
As a result, several patients were relocated to different parts of the hospital and 17 patients were transferred to Riverview Medical Center, Raritan Bay Medical Center Old Bridge, Raritan Bay Medical Center Perth Amboy and Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
