HAZLET, NJ — Good news for the Hazlet Township Public School District — it’s expected to see an increase in state aid for the 2026-27 school year.
On Thursday, the NJ Department of Education released its aid figures for each school district across the state.
Similar to the 2025-26 school year, most aid increases were capped at 6%, with the majority of aid cuts capped at 3%.

In Hazlet, the school district is expected to see a 6% increase in funding, or $381,506 more than what they saw in 2025-26. In total, the district will receive $6,739,947 in state aid.
According to Scott Ridley, the superintendent of the Hazlet Township Public School District, this is the first time in a decade that the district has received an increase in funding.

“Hazlet will receive an additional $380,000 over last year, which has enabled us to cut our deficit from $1.5M to roughly $850,000 moving forward,” Ridley said. “Still a sizable number, but so much more workable than $1.5M.”
Going forward, Ridley said the district will continue to support student learning while “honoring our legal obligation to create a balanced budget with minimal sacrifice to those kids in our classrooms.”
On Monday night, the Hazlet Board of Education will hold a special no-action-taken meeting to continue discussing strategies and offer suggestions to reduce the budget deficit “with minimal impact on our educational product.”
The meeting will take place before a school board meeting planned for Monday, March 23, where the district’s budget adoption is set to take place.
Monday night’s meeting will take place in the Raritan High School Media Center, located at 419 Middle Road, Hazlet.
