Holmdel Soccer Fans Support Their Team

A contingent of Holmdel friends and family followed the Hornets out to Ewing to support their bid for a state title.

After a phenomenal season, Holmdel fans remain extremely proud of the Holmdel Boys Varsity Soccer Team, despite their loss Sunday against Bernards High School for the state championship.

A number of fans travelled to Ewing to watch the final match for the state title between Holmdel and Bernards. Bernards won 1-0. "It was a nail biter that could have gone either way, but unfortunately, it didn't go ours," said Lynn Saporito, whose nephew, EJ Carannante, is on the team.  "Our boys played their hearts out."

The Hornets won the Group III championship last season to cap a 22-1 season and took on the Mountaineers (19-3-1) with a 20-3-1 record in 2011.
