The New School of Monmouth County gives back, both at home and abroad

Holmdel, NJ (Jan 10, 2014) –The New School of Monmouth County closed out the holiday season giving back to its community both here and abroad. “We feel that teaching children to help those in need is an important part of a well-rounded education,” said School Founder & Educational Director, Susan Chilvers.

This holiday season students at the school were busy collecting toys and food for Hands of Hope Food Pantry. The Edison NJ based non-profit community organization helps those in need through its food pantry, toy drives, health fairs, coat drives, etc. – providing for “simple yet vital needs to help children and families live productive and happy lives year round!”

Not stopping there, The New School of Monmouth County teamed up with Trader Joe’s and River Flow Yoga of Lambertville, NJ to send troops in Afghanistan much needed pick me ups to supplement the steady flow of reconstituted freeze-dried rations. River Flow Yoga owner and former New School Parent, Rhonda Uretzky reached out to the not-for-profit school with a proposal to join efforts and sponsor a 30 person unit by sending comfort foods and supplies to people far from home for the holidays. In addition to the food and supplies from Trader Joes, the children from the school sent holiday mugs filled with tea bags and soup packets and created Holiday cards and notes of encouragement for the unit. “My favorite part was helping Susan to pack the boxes we were sending to Afghanistan and getting them ready to mail,” said Robert a 7 year old student in the school’s younger class.
