Tinton Falls Teen Arrested For Throwing Bottle In Moving Car on 287

Police say the bottle-throwing incident happened during a road rage episode in Piscataway.

PISCATAWAY, NJ-- A Tinton Falls teenager was arrested for throwing a soda bottle from his moving car into another in what state police characterized as a road rage episode.

Thomas Nicholson, 19, allegedly threw a bottle of soda into another man's car while the two were driving on Route 287 in Piscataway during Tuesday's rush hour. Nicholson took off, but not before the other drive could take a picture of his license plate.

Police arrested Nicholson at home, before taking him to Somerville Station and charging him with interference with transportation. He was released, pending an upcoming court date.

State Police reminded all drivers to avoid confrontations while driving, as they can quickly turn dangerous.

"The moral of the story is that these types of incidents can often escalate quickly, which can lead to dangerous situations. Now, the suspect in this instance is only alleged to have thrown a soda container," they wrote on their Facebook page. "While this incident is not as scary or dangerous as someone brandishing a weapon or trying to ram your car, it could have had tragic consequences if one of the driver's lost control and caused serious or fatal accident."
