Truck Again Hits Laurel Ave. Overpass In Holmdel

This is the second time in 2019 that a truck hit the Laurel Ave. overpass, and the fifth time in the past three years. We've been counting.

HOLMDEL, NJ — At about 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, a truck yet again struck the low-hanging Laurel Avenue overpass in Holmdel.

This is the second time in 2019 that a truck hit the Laurel Ave. overpass, and the fifth time in the past three years. The overpass carries the NJ Transit North Jersey Coast railroad tracks over Laurel Avenue. It has a clearance of 12 feet, five inches.

"Once again, a tractor trailer struck the NJ Transit overpass," said Holmdel police on Facebook. "This still occurred even though signs and variable message boards surround the overpass warning of the height restrictions. Expect delays on Laurel Avenue and please use an alternate route if possible."

Aug. 13, 2019: Truck hits the bridge and damages it.

April 3, 2019: A tractor trailer became wedged under the overpass at 7:10 a.m. that day. Police say the driver failed to observe numerous warning signs about the bridge clearance.

July 13, 2018: A truck hit the bridge at 6 a.m. that day.

Monday, May 21, 2018: A tractor trailer became wedged under the bridge and had to be removed by a heavy-duty towing company.

March 19, 2018: VIDEO: FedEx Truck Hits Bridge In Holmdel. A FedEx truck collided with the Laurel Avenue bridge, and a helicopter captured aerial footage of the damage. The impact was so great it shaved the roof off the truck and actually split the truck in two.
