10 New COVID-19 Deaths In Sussex Co. Nursing Homes
New testing of staff and residents will be mandatory next week.
SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ - The rates may be slowing, but there are still 10 new deaths in long-term care facilities in Sussex County since last week, according to the numbers reported to the New Jersey Department of Health by the facilities.

Gov. Phil Murphy, speaking during a news conference Monday, said that stemming the deaths in these facilities, among residents and staff is something his administration is working very hard on.

"There are several hundred thousand people's lives we're still trying to save as we speak," Murphy said. "And at the same time we mourn the extraordinary loss."
The loss Murphy is referring to is the 5,408 deaths that have been spread across 28,136 cases in 527 facilities.

Part of those efforts include a plan includes testing all residents and staff at long-term care facilities. It will require all residents and staff at long-term care facilities to be tested no later than May 26, with follow-up testing happening no longer than one week later.
In Sussex County there are 358 cases are spread among the five impacted facilities. There have been 104 deaths at these facilities, up from 100 last week.
The largest outbreak in Sussex County remains at Andover Subacute and Rehab Center II. The report shows that 206 cases were logged there and out of those there were 59 deaths. This is not the first time this particular facility has come under scrutiny, according to inspection reports.
Here are the facilities in Warren County that have patients positive for the coronavirus, followed by the deaths that have happened at those facilities. The list of facilities was provided by the state Department of Health; there may be discrepancies due to a delay in communications between the facilities and the state:
- Barn Hill Care Center, 16, 1
- Valley View Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, 21, 9
- Andover Subacute and Rehab Center I, 49, 17
- Homestead Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. 66. 18
- Andover Subacute and Rehab Center II, 206, 59
