Breast Cancer Survivors Sought for Public Education Campaign

Project Self-Sufficiency is searching for Sussex County breast cancer survivors who would be willing to share their stories as part of the Mammograms Save Lives campaign.

Project Self-Sufficiency is searching for breast cancer survivors who reside in Sussex County who would be willing to participate in the “Mammograms Save Lives” campaign, an integrated public education effort which combines articles in the New Jersey Herald, along with flyers, billboards and other outreach efforts intended to increase awareness of the importance of early detection in preventing breast cancer.  Interested individuals must be Sussex County residents who are willing to share their story with the goal of inspiring others to be screened for breast cancer.  Past inspirational stories can be viewed on the Project Self-Sufficiency website, at http://www.projectselfsufficiency.org/mammograms-save-lives-campaign-sussex-county-nj.html.

Project Self-Sufficiency, Komen for the Cure® North Jersey Affiliate, Intercar Mercedes Benz, Sussex Honda and the New Jersey Herald have combined forces to promote the importance of early detection in the fight against breast cancer through the “Mammograms Save Live” campaign.  In addition to the public education effort, the agency has a multi-faceted breast health education program.  Project Self-Sufficiency offers free breast cancer prevention presentations to area middle schools, high schools, civic organizations, religious groups, and other entities throughout the year.  More than 60,000 girls and women have been reached through the agency’s breast health program during the past 10 years.  Free mammograms are provided four times a year to uninsured or underinsured women over the age of 40 at Project Self-Sufficiency as part of the agency’s breast health effort.  The agency also spearheads the local Tie-A-Ribbon Campaign, and offers a free Health Fair to area residents during the month of October, in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast cancer survivors who are interested in sharing their story are encouraged to call Haley Ward at Project Self-Sufficiency at 973-940-3500.
