Downed Wires
Tips for persons who are having power issues throughout the borough and tips for tonights trick or treaters.

During the storm, due to the weight of the large amounts of rapidly falling snow, many tree limbs came down bringing with them, phone, power, and television lines. It is extremely imperative that everyone use caution any time they have a line in their yard, on their home, or on their car that they not come in contact with the lines. Conditions exist where the power company may inadveryently charge a line that is thought to be out, backfeeding may occur, etc. Their are also instances where it is a cable or phone line on the ground nearby so a person may be bold enough to move it. However what they don't see is that 700 feet away a portion of that phone or cable line is in contact with a primary electric wire that is charged and has now electified the phone or cable line. This mistake could be fatal.
If you have power strips or extension cords around your home, take the time now to disconnect them while the power is out and once the power returns reconnect items one by one to insure safe and proper connections following this storm.
Lastly if you have little ones who are trick or treating this evening, please make sure to not allow them to enter yards where lines are laying on the ground or on a tree or bush in the yard. This little bit of preventative measure will ensure that everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween
