Free Admission to Edison Day June 2nd
The Edison Museum in West Orange is Free Saturday June 2 - It is a great place too at $8
Many on Patch don’t realize besides blogging on Patch, I am a volunteer interpreter for the Edison Museum. I don’t get a chance to go to West Orange often. But I am there in spirit because I am a big history buff on Thomas Edison and try to write an article each month to a hardcopy community newspaper. But once a year in June, I like to spend a full day volunteering for Edison Days.
On this day admission to the museum is free and they have all these neat programs and exhibits for the day. My favorite is the wax cylinder recordings.
Edison invented this recording device in the late 1800’s that uses wax on
paper to record sound. They have music sound recording with a live band being recorded on Edison’s wax cylinder recording device. Here is a YouTube video of a past Museum wax recording gig.
