So where's your 'Warm Fuzzy?'

How I feel about and cope with...

A day in the life of a Mom or Dad often includes drying a tear-stained face or hugging away a hurt.  When they're little, it's a skinned knee.  As they grow, it's a fight with a BFF or a first break-up.  It's part of the magic of being a parent.  We can help ease the pain.  But what happens when it's the parents that need the "warm fuzzy" (as my fondly-missed Mom-mom would call it)?  There is no worse pain than that which a parent suffers over the hurt experienced by one of their children.

For the parent s of children with brain disorders or any illness, the pain is suffered daily.  It is a permanent weight on your heart that never fully goes away.

So what do we do?  We find strength from places we didn't even know we had.  Sometimes a spouse, a family member or a friend.  Often, it can be from a complete stranger.  Those that know what the pain is can offer immesaurable comfort.  Remember there is strength in numbers!

My challenge to you, reach out to someone today (or better yet, to Patch readers as a whole) and let them know you're here for them.

I would like to aproach topics that are broad enough that will apply to all parents of children living with a brain disorder, yet specific enough that we can keep the posts focused. This approach will soon become familiar to those of you attending our live support meetings. The topic will always take on the form of:
"How I feel about and cope with..."

Important to note is not only are we discussing a concern, but also what our family does or plans to do to try to address the concerns. This is a wonderful way of sharing approaches that others may not have thought of.

So this week's topic is:
"HOW I FEEL ABOUT AND COPE WITH THE SCHOOL YEAR COMING TO AN END AND MY CHILD(ren) BEING HOME FOR THE SUMMER"
