Capwell Shows Strength at Meet of Champs

Cook, Prestifilippo also excel.

Hopatcong proved it belonged at the Meet of Champions.

The Chiefs sent three athletes—sophomore Dylan Capwell and seniors A.J. Cook and Joe Prestifilippo—to the state's most prestigious meet on Thursday, which featured a suprised and, for most, unwelcomed ending.

Capwell finished 11th in the 800-meter run Thursday at the Meet of Champions in 1:55.41. Prior to running in the 800, Capwell also ran in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, placing 24th in 58.15.

Cook was 28th in the discus with a throw of 138-1.

In a strange turn of events, the meet was postponed due to severe weather in the middle of the seeded heat of the boys 3,200-meter run. With less than two laps to go in the race, lightening forced officials to stop the race and eventually postpone the meet.

Prestifilippo ran in the unseeded heat, finishing in a time of 10:16.55.

The meet is scheduled to resume Monday at 6 p.m. at Old Bridge's Lombardi Field.

Events to be completed include the boys and girls 3,200, and 4x400 relays, boys shot put, boys long jump, girls triple jump and girls javelin.
