Cars Burst Into Flames After 3 Car Crash In Sparta

The Sparta Fire Department was able to quickly extinguish the flames.

SPARTA, NJ— A three car crash in Sparta ended with a car up in flames, police said in a statement.

The Thursday evening crash happened at the intersection of Route 15 and Primrose Lane in Sparta.

According to police, 69-year-old Elizabeth A. Lehmann of Rockaway rear ended Balvaneda Torres, of Sparta, as Torres slowed down to make a turn.

The impact forced Torres' car into the intersection, where she struck Ashlie C. Qualagari, of Vernon, police said.

Torres' car continued another 200 feet into the intersection before it burst into flames. She was able to get out of the care safely, and was taken to Newton Medical Center by the Sparta Ambulance Squad after complaining of pain.

The other two drivers were uninjured, and the Sparta Fire Department quickly extinguished the flames. Lehmann was issued summonses for following too closely and careless driving.
