Cold Pizza: Frank's Employees Take On Ice Challenge for ALS Association

Hopatcong business joins viral campaign to spread awareness about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and raise money.

When they’re not kneading dough or serving customers, employees at Frank’s Pizza in Hopatcong or giving back. And they’re doing it in a very cool way.

Four of Frank’s employees recently took the Ice Bucket Challenge where people record themselves dumping a bucket of ice water on their head to raise awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

How it works: A challenger is nominated by someone else, and that person has 24 hours to complete the task. If he or she is not up to the challenge, a donation must be made to the ALS Association. Of course, most challengers are taking part in the deep freeze as well as sending funds over to the cause.

It all began when athletes created the challenge to support Pete Frates, a former Boston College baseball team captain who is now battling ALS. The recordings are mostly seen – and nominations made – through Facebook.

That’s where Frank’s Pizza of Hopatcong posted its video recently of four female employees taking the challenge, who then nominated all of the restaurant’s customers to take the challenge next.
