Construction Help Needed at Hillside Terrace Sussex Renovation

Morris Habitat for Humanity has a renovation project under way in Sussex County and needs volunteers.

Morris Habitat for Humanity has a renovation project under way in Sussex County and needs volunteers like YOU to see it to completion. The new Hillside Terrace home building project in Green Township, Sussex County, is a great chance for an individual or group to come out, learn some simple building skills and help a worthy family make needed repairs to their home. The existing single-family home will be renovated. It’s a split-level home with 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms and a 1-car garage. Morris Habitat hopes to complete the project sometime in December of 2015. In lieu of a down payment, the future homeowner will complete 300 hours of sweat equity helping to build their new Habitat home. Take advantage of an opportunity to come build side by side with the future homeowner. One group has already come on board. Volunteers from AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) are actively working at the site. NCCC is a full-time, team-based service program for men and women aged 18–24. The mission of AmeriCorps NCCC is to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct, team-based national and community service. They work in partnership with nonprofit organizations, such as Morris Habitat for Humanity. Six volunteers aged 19 - 22 from all across the U.S. will be volunteering full-time at two of the Morris Habitat construction sites (Hillside Terrace in Sussex County and Hazel Street in Morristown) from September 2nd to October 16th (for a total of approximately 3,200 hours!). These volunteers are being housed at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Andover, NJ at their Retreat Center. To join the volunteers, no special skills are needed – all Morris Habitat asks is to come with a willingness to help. Building work takes place at Hillside Terrace most Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. including a lunch break. Volunteers are essential to the completion of the build. No experience is necessary and instruction will be offered on site. Schedules are flexible and volunteers are welcome to come alone or along with a group. To volunteer as a group, contact Stephanie.Buonarota, Director of Volunteer Services, at Stephanie.Buonarota@morrishabitat.org or call 973-891-1934 ext.103. Go to Morris Habitat for Humanity web site att www.MorrisHabitat.org for information on past and active sites, view the construction calendar, and sign up as a volunteer.
