Drunk Driver Fled Accident Scene: Sparta Police
Anthony Rosario was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.
SPARTA, NJ - A 58-year-old Hardyston man cracked up his car and fled the scene of the accident on Dec. 16, according to the Sparta Police Department.
According to authorities, the Sparta Dispatch received a call of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Woodport Road and Blue Heron shortly before 4:30 p.m. The caller reported that the vehicle, a bright yellow Hyundai, that had caused the accident had fled the scene. Officer Matt Pletcher was responding to the scene when he observed a yellow Hyundai, with significant damage to the front end, travelling on Main Street towards Glen Road and stopped the vehicle, police said.
Pletcher spoke to the driver, Anthony Rosario, and observed him to be intoxicated, police said. When Pletcher asked Rosario if he was just involved in an accident, he replied “I think so,” according to authorities.

After completion of Field Sobriety tests, Rosario was placed under arrest for DWI and transported to Sparta Police HQ for processing. After breath testing was conducted, Rosario was charged with:
- DWI
- Careless Driving
- Failure to Report an Accident
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident
- Failing to Keep Right
He was advised of a mandatory court appearance and released to a sober adult, police said.
