Fire Damages Sparta Home Wednesday Morning, Cops Say

Smoke was pouring out of electrical sockets when homeowner called 911, police report.

A Hemlock Terrace home in Sparta Township sustained significant interior damage in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Sparta Township Police said.

Police responded to the home after a 2:55 a.m. call from the homeowner that smoke was coming from the electrical outlets, police said.

When police arrived on scene they discovered a large amount of smoke in the residence and helped remove residents from the structure before firefighters arrived, police said.

A fire inside the walls near the chimney of the residence was extinguished by the fire department and no one was injured.

It was determined the fire’s origin was not suspicious in nature.
