First Sussex Co. Wawa Opens Thursday: See Where

FRANKFORD, NJ - Sussex County’s first Wawa opens Thursday as part of the company’s aggressive growth plan on the east coast.

The site is located at the former Chatterbox Drive-In at 1 NJ-15 in the Augusta section of Frankford Township. A grand opening is set for Thursday featuring giveaways, donations and ceremonies.

Two more Sussex County locations are in the works, including one on Route 206 in Byram and Route 206 in Hampton, according to the New Jersey Herald. Both are set to open in 2023. More Sparta locations are also in the cards in 2024, the publication wrote.

If you’ve noticed an influx in new Wawa openings in recent months, you’re not alone. Wawa plans to open 1,800 locations by 2030 in what has been dubbed Wawa’s "most aggressive growth" plan ever.

Around 100 stores are expected to open per year, with 54 new locations set to open in 2022. In New Jersey, at least four more openings are planned through the fall, with new sites in Vorhees, Union, Orange and Hamilton. Read more: Wawa Will Double Store Count, New Locations To Open In NJ: Report

The new stores planned through 2030 will be a mix of "traditional" and "non-traditional;" storefronts, such as rest-stop style outposts and standalone drive-thru stores, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.

There are already over 270 New Jersey Wawa locations, with about 965 stores nationwide.
