Free Seminar: Basic Rights in Special Education
Learn about the rights and responsibilities for parents of kids with special needs.
The Sussex County Family Success Center at Project Self-Sufficiency will host a free workshop, “Basic Rights in Special Education,” on Tuesday, October 6th, at 6:00 p.m. The presentation will introduce parents of children with special needs to the rights and responsibilities available to them under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), the New Jersey Code and Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act. Parents will learn advocacy strategies that will help children reach their full potential.
“This workshop is ideal for parents and educators who want to learn more about the options available to them as advocates for their special needs children,” noted Deborah Berry-Toon, Executive Director of Project Self-Sufficiency. “Parents will learn more about the special education law, and understand how to effectively collaborate with their children’s professional partners to achieve their individual goals.”
The workshop is presented by the Statewide Parent Advocacy Network, the leading parent advocacy agency whose mission is to empower families and to inform and involve professionals and other individuals in the healthy development and educational rights of children.
