Here's Who Plans to Run for the School Board

Four people have told Patch they have either filed or plan to file to run for three open seats on Hopatcong's Board of Education in November.

Incumbent Clifford Lundin and newcomer John Maine have filed to run for three open seats on Hopatcong's Board of Education, the pair told Patch last week. Incumbents Delores Krowl and Joan Reilly each said they plan to file to run before Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline.

The seats of Lundin, Krowl and Reilly each will expire at year's end.

Hopatcong, and many towns throughout the state, moved its school board elections from April to November when it also .

Patch asked each of the candidates why they planned to run. Here are their responses. Maine declined comment.

Lundin: "It's a big commitment and I've debated it strongly. But I'm running again because I think we've made some very good progress over the last couple of years with the staff changes, curriculum changes and getting the budget under control. I'd like to see these projects until completion. Change takes a lot of time."

Krowl: "I think we've been heading in a positve direction and I want to make sure it keeps going in that positive direction. I want to make sure that the things that are being promised and talked about are going to happen."

Reilly: "My biggest commitment has been to the children in this town. I think that's the most important thing we can do. They are the answer to our problems. If we educate them well, things wil get better. I still thing there's a long way to go to better the education in Hopatcong and I would like to be in on it."
