Hopatcong – Sparta Call Your US District 11 Reps to Shut Down the Shutdown

We're over a week into the first federal government shutdown in 17 years, and already the effects on women and families are chilling:

Millions of low-income women and children are worrying where their meals will come from next week, since the shutdown means some states could run out of money to distribute financial assistance through the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

Hundreds of children are no longer able to attend preschool,
since their Head Start programs no longer have access to federal grant funding.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has stopped investigating new charges of employment discrimination, meaning that women and men who have experienced such discrimination will have to wait even longer for justice.

Domestic violence programs cannot draw down funds from their federal grants from the Department of Justice.

These effects will only get worse over time, if our members of Congress don't get their act together. They need to hear from us – they need to know that this government shutdown is real, it hurts, and it needs to stop.

Enough is enough. Congress needs to do its job.
