With No Security Threats, Hopatcong Schools Stay at Status Quo

Counselors, security on hand, but no more than usual, officials say.

Hopatcong schools went into lockdown on 9/11. But a day after Osama bin Ladin's death, everything was status quo, Superintendent Dr. Charles Maranzano said.

He said there was no reason to believe Hopatcong schools were under any particular threat despite Sunday's bombshell news and that while the district was prepared to handle students who may have been emotionally affected by bin Ladin's death, no extra help was called in.

Maranzano said during the afternoon he wouldn't take any added security measures until he received word from the Sussex County schools superintendent. He also said the day went smoothily. High school Principal Emil Binotto said he wasn't aware of any students affected.
