Hopatcong Skate Park Closed For Repairs
Police warned the skatepark could close for good "if it turns into nothing but a problem for Hopatcong."

HOPATCONG, NJ — The Hopatcong skate park is closed as repairs to ramps get under way, Hopatcong Police Capt. Tom Kmetz said.
Holes were smashed in the ten foot and eight foot ramps, Kmetz said, requiring repairs. The DPW fix the eight foot ramps, but upon finding the holes in the ten foot ramps decided to close the park.
"Thank you to the skaters who tried to fix it themselves. Your good deeds helped get this project moving," Kmetz said.

Kmetz praised the skate park as a place for young Hopatcong residents to be active, but warned that vandalism could cause the park's downfall.
"I can tell you that I foresee the park being leveled if it turns into nothing but a problem for Hopatcong. I spearheaded getting the park reopened after our officers had to kick out good kids who were going into the park to skate while it was closed," Kmetz said. "That makes the Police look bad to our youth. We do not want that. I asked that it be fixed or leveled. The Mayor and Borough Administrator wish to give it one more try. You should thank them and our D.P. W. if you skate."
