
Many Hopatcong residents will march in Saturday's Memorial Day parade, which starts at borough hall at 10 a.m. and continues to Veterans Field, where the borough will unveil a monument honoring war heroes.
And while there will be signs and flags and sirens, one object will stick out to Middle School teacher Christina Munoz.
Her language arts class designed a banner honoring military servicemen that Hopatcong Girl Scouts Troop 1950 will carry. It reads:

The cities make up our states.
The states make up our country.
This country makes us American.
War heroes give us freedom - honor them today.
Munoz said the class broke into groups of four and whittled down ideas for the banner. Eventually, the class held a vote and chose the winner.

"It represents the soliders who died for our country," student Teagan Dougherty said. "And it represents our class because we designed it."
Andrew Giordano said it was fulfilling to see their hard work pay off.
"We made it for our town," he said.
