Hopatcong Woman Fatally Hit By Car While Walking In Bridgewater

This is the third pedestrian to be fatally hit while walking on Route 28 in Bridgewater in the past three years.

HOPATCONG, NJ — A Hopatcong woman was fatally hit by a car while walking on Route 28 in Bridgewater early Sunday morning.

The woman, identified as Kelsey Benson, 28, from Hopatcong, was walking on westbound State Highway 28 near Vanderveer Road when she was hit by a 2008 Lexus around 12:46 a.m. on Sunday, said Bridgewater Police Traffic Safety Officer Joseph Greco.

Members of the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital Paramedic unit went to the scene to help Benson, but she ultimately died from her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, said Greco.

The driver of the Lexus was identified as Yan Yan Han, 59, of Bridgewater. No charges have been filed at this time.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Officer Joseph Greco of the Bridgewater Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit at 908-722-4111 ext. 4186.
