Hundreds of Job Seekers Attend Career Fair

Project Self-Sufficiency hosted a Career Fair on Thursday, October 9th.

Job seekers poured through the doors at Project Self-Sufficiency on Thursday to attend a Career & Job Fair. In addition to information tables hosted by area employers, attendees took advantage of workshops about marketing, job searching and the use of social media. “This Career & Job Fair offers those who are currently seeking work the opportunity to learn how to market themselves, tailor their resume, prepare for interviews, and ultimately gain the skills and confidence necessary to land their next job,” noted Kyersten Rozanski, Director of Career & Employment Services at Project Self-Sufficiency.

Guest speaker Claudia Raffay, Adjunct Professor at Sussex County Community College and Human Resource Specialist at Sussex Rural Electric Cooperative, discussed “Marketing Yourself to Employers,” while Jim Albrecht, Talent Acquisition Manager, and Casey Saporito, University Recruiter, from Selective Insurance Company, presented “Job-Searching 101: Resumes, Social Media, and Interview Preparation.”

Representatives from many area employers were on hand to discuss job openings and educational opportunities, including Capitol Care, Inc.; County College of Morris; DAWN Center for Independent Living; Dental Medical Technical Career Institute; Devereux; DeVry University; First Student; From the Heart Elder Care; Hampton Inn; Homestead Rehabilitation; IBEW Local 102; Lantek Corporation; Lincoln Heritage; Lincoln Technical Institute; Lowe’s; Metro Public Adjustment; Mountain Creek; New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development; Pathstone; Preferred Care at Home; Primerica; ResCare Home Care; Rite Aid; SCARC; Selective Insurance; Sussex County Community College, Department of Health Sciences; ThorLabs; Toy R Us; United Associates of New Jersey; UPS; Willowglen Academy; and others.

Project Self-Sufficiency is a private non-profit community-based organization dedicated to improving the lives of low-income families residing in northwestern New Jersey. The agency’s mission is to provide a broad spectrum of holistic, respectful, and comprehensive services enabling low-income single parents, teen parents, two-parent families, and displaced homemakers to improve their lives and the lives of their children through the achievement of personal and economic self-sufficiency and family stability.
