Lake Hopatcong Triathlon To Close Roads Saturday

HOPATCONG, NJ — Drivers should expect traffic changes Saturday as athletes take to roads for the Lake Hopatcong Sprint Triathlon Challenge.

The race begins at 7:30 a.m. at Crescent Cove Beach Club, 5 Hudson Avenue, according to the event page. Athletes will complete a 400-meter swim, a 12.4-mile bicycle course and a 3.1-mile run.

The Borough of Hopatcong said the old section of Lakeside Boulevard, from River Styx Road near Elite Preparatory Academy to Madick Park, will become northbound only. Hudson Avenue will be one-way and limited to local traffic, while Crescent Road and Bell Avenue will close to through traffic.

“With swimmers, cyclists, and runners taking to our local roads,” borough officials asked motorists to slow down, stay alert and give athletes room. Drivers should not travel around cones or barricades and should allow extra time, officials said.

The event benefits the Hopatcong Policemen’s Benevolent Association. Organizers said the group “proudly supports those who serve our community every day.”
