Man Accused Of Luring Teen For Sex: Sussex County Prosecutor

He thought he was meeting up with a 14-year-old girl. Instead, law enforcement was waiting for him.

VERNON, NJ— A Vernon man is charged with attempted sexual assault after he allegedly set up an in-person meet up with who he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex, the Sussex County Prosecutor said in a statement.

Richard Boydston of Vernon Township is accused of attempted sexual assault, luring, endangering the welfare of a child, obscenities to a minor, and attempted criminal sexual contact after police say he exchanged sexually explicit messages with a who he thought was a 14-year-old girl through online messages boards and texts.

He allegedly made arrangements to meet the girl, but law enforcement was waiting for him instead. Boydston was arrested on Wednesday.

The case was investigated by the High Tech Crimes Unit of the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office, a member of the New Jersey Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office at (973) 383-1570.
