Man Charged With Shoplifting Honey Buns: Hopatcong Police
"He was arrested for $3.00 worth of Jumbo iced honey buns. ... That of which are nothing but sugar and bad for you," Lt. Kmetz wrote.
HOPATCONG, NJ— An area man was charged with shoplifting three packs of Honey Buns after a high school classmate recognized him, Hopatcong Police said in a statement.
Police were called to a local Quick Chek on Feb. 22 after a store manager saw someone take three jumbo Honey Buns without paying. An employee told police the man was Brian Franklin, 20, and that she'd gone to high school with him.
The honey buns were worth $3 total, Lt. Thomas Kmetz wrote in a statement.

Surveillance footage showed Franklin taking the sweets, police said, but he could not be located. Officers kept in touch with his family and friends, and located him three weeks later in Rockaway, his hometown.
Franklin was charged with shoplifting, and released on a summons.

According to Kmetz, Franklin made a series of mistakes, which Kmetz detailed on Facebook:
- "He shoplifted
- He did it in a store with cameras
- He did it in a store where an employee went to school with him, so knew his name
- He was arrested for $3.00 worth of Jumbo iced honey buns. $3.00 of merchandise. That of which are nothing but sugar and bad for you."
