Man Overdosing On Heroin Saved By Hopatcong Police

The man was given four doses of Narcan before regaining consciousness.

HOPATCONG, NJ — Police saved the life of a man overdosing on heroin with Narcan, Hopatcong Police said on Facebook.

The man's family called 911 Saturday evening to report that the 28-year-old was overdosing, police said. He was laying unresponsive on his back, and his face was turning blue. He was not breathing, and his pulse was faint, police said.

After two doses of Narcan, the man began breathing, but was still unresponsive. After sternum rubs failed to wake him, police administered two more doses of Narcan. He woke up approximately 30 seconds later, police said.

The man told police he had shot one bag of heroin. He was taken to Dover St Clare's Hospital by Hopatcong EMS.

He was not charged with a crime.
