Man In White Van Approached Woman In Sparta: Police

Police said the woman wasn't chased, but that the incident was "suspicious."

SPARTA, NJ — Sparta police are investigating a suspicious incident where a man in a van approached a woman, police said in a statement.

A man driving an unmarked white van drove up to a woman walking on Mount Pleasant Road on Memorial Day, police said. The van drove passed her, and then stopped behind her.

The man, whom the woman described as in his 40s with brown hair and possibly wearing a red shirt, got out of the van and opened the back doors, and then began walking in the woman's direction, police said. The woman ran away.

He did not speak to the woman, nor did he chase her, police said. The van then left the area.

Surrounding police departments were notified, and the area was checked. The investigation is ongoing; anyone with information should contact Detective Brian Hassloch at 973-726-4067.
