The accident was under investigation. A Meal Train was set up to help the family.

The New Jersey Herald reported that Alexis Faye is the daughter of Newton Board of Education member Joan Faye.

Newton Superintendent Ken Greene said the school will provide counselors this week, telling The New Jersey Herald that "this is hard for the whole community."

The school's schedule said the high school's senior and junior proms were on Friday.

Instead of celebrating that, local residents asked people to tie ribbons around trees, poles and mailboxes in honor of Lexi.
