NJ Teen Killed In Crash With Dump Truck In NY

The initial police investigation found the teen failed to yield the right of way.

HIGHLAND LAKE, NJ — A New Jersey teenager was killed early Wednesday morning in car crash in New York. State Police in New York said Andrew Van Dyke, 17, of Highland Lake, was driving a 2009 Toyota RAV4 north on County Route 93 in the Town of Wawayanda in Orange County.

An investigation found that he failed to yield the right of way and struck a 2005 Peterbilt 375 dump truck that was traveling west on State Route 284.

Van Dyke was ejected from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The operator of the truck — Jeremey Hermida, 28, was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center for evaluation, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
