A woman was hospitalized this weekend after she was attacked by her own bull in New Jersey, police said.

The incident happened on Friday at 3 p.m. when police received several reports of a "cow" on House Corner Road in Sparta, police said. The animal was apparently following vehicles.

Wendy McDermott of Houses Corner Road said the bull was "highly aggressive," and she was using food to get the bull to where it was supposed to be.

The bull then began to follow her vehicle on the gravel road toward the farm as a police officer followed. The bull then hit the car, literally bumping McDermott’s vehicle and trying to mount it several times, police said.

McDermott eventually left her vehicle and attempted to get her bull to go through the open gate at her farm. The bull turned on her and started attacking her, throwing her around, police said.

McDermott started to scream that the bull was going to kill her, and that the animal needed to be shot, according to police.

The police officer attempted to distract the bull and get McDermott in her patrol vehicle, which she did, police said. Other patrol units and the Sparta EMS arrived on scene.

The bull then attempted to charge the police officer's patrol vehicle and was put down, authorities said.

McDermott was treated on scene by EMS and transported to Newton Memorial Hospital for her injuries, police said McDermott later reported that she received numerous stitches to her head as well lacerations and bruising to her upper body.

McDermott also said that her bull had recently attacked her husband, but it was no way as serious as this attack was.
