The New Jersey Herald reports Hopatcong resident Dennis Tobin will take over as Sparta's superintendent after its incumbent announced his retirement last month.
Tobin, the current Sparta High School principal, was one of 's top athletes. He held the Chiefs' all-time basketball scoring record until his son, Matt, .
Tobin, who was appointed with a 7-2 vote, replaces Thomas Morton, the report said. Tobin, who still resides in the borough, will make much less ($167,500) than Morton ($235,207) due to the superintendent salary cap the state introduced in 2010, the report said.
