The students in Mrs. Mancuso’s class had a surprise visitor last Friday.  Nala, a service dog belonging to Alaura Paladino, paid a visit to the students in Room 16. The theme for the week in reading was “Being Yourself." The students spent the week reading about sign language, guide dogs and technology that helps people with disabilities. Our special visitor provided a neat way for students to gain a better understanding of the services that service dogs can provide. Alaura and her mom shared some basic information about Nala, which was followed by a question-and-answer period. Nala is a one year old boxer/lab mix. Nala went through a basic training school and earned her certificate to become a service dog. Nala even knows how to shut the lights off! All of the students had the chance to pet Nala, but the students were reminded that service dogs are not allowed to be pet while working. It was a visit enjoyed by all!
