The Sparta High School boys basketball team traveled to North Hunterdon to play in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex County Tournament Saturday afternoon. Although down at the half, Sparta came back to win and get to the HWS final.
The battle for the berth in the H/W/S Tournament final would be a good one. Both teams seemed to struggle to get a rhythm in the close contest, but with a minute to go in the half, Sparta center Mitchell Cohen suffered a knee injury.
"Our message in the locker room was somebody goes down, somebody steps up," said Sparta head coach Brian Brennan. And the Spartans did just that. The Spartan second half attack was led by Zach Frick who scored 14 points in the second half, 18 for the game. Jake Melville had the game high score of 21 points scoring 10 of those in the second half run.

"Zach took it to another level, as did Jake, as did all the guys," said Brennan. "A good team effort by them and now we have another chance at Pope John or Hunterdon Central."
The H/W/S County final will be Friday at Hopatcong High School at 7:30 p.m.
