Sparta Mud Run to Benefit Project Self-Sufficiency
The 4th annual Sparta Mud Run will raise funds for Project Self-Sufficiency.

The 4th annual Sparta Mud Run, a fun-filled event for women and children sponsored by the Sparta Evangelical Free Church, will take place on Sunday, September 11th, at 4:00 p.m. The event includes a ¾ mile Junior Mud Run, for children ages 6 – 12, and a 1.5 mile Ladies event, for females over the age of 13. Proceeds from the $25 per person entry fee will benefit Project Self-Sufficiency, a local non-profit organization which provides a host of programs and services to families in Sussex, Warren and Hunterdon Counties.
"We love the opportunity to bring to bring the local community together to support all of the amazing work Project Self Sufficiency and other local causes do in our county, from providing family stability programs, to free legal advice and job training to those in need,” commented Jennifer Jones, Sparta Mud Run Race Organizer. “Each year we have a blast getting muddy and completing obstacles together to support a very worthy cause."
The event emphasizes fun, friendly competition and the spirit of giving; participants get muddy while climbing through obstacles like the Muddy Watercrawl, the H2OhNo Tube Slide and the Over-Under Climb. Awards are presented to top three finishers by age category. All participants are invited to a feast of grilled delicacies following the event.

"A core value of who we are as a community at the Sparta Evangelical Free Church is to serve others as we love Jesus,” added Doug Thuen, Senior Pastor. “Last year, thanks to our local community coming together for a fun day of friendly competition and mud, we raised $3,500 for Project Self Sufficiency. The work they do to empower individuals and families and to improve the quality of life for children in our county is something we are proud to support. It's unique to have a mud run just for kids in mind that also supports kids in need."
“We commend the congregation of the Sparta Evangelical Free Church for coming up with such a creative and fun-filled way to express their support of the families and children served by Project Self-Sufficiency,” remarked Deborah Berry-Toon, Executive Director of Project Self-Sufficiency. “We are always grateful for donations from the community. The funds raised by this event will definitely make a difference in the lives of those in need within our community.”
