Sparta Organization Gives Scholarship

A local student received a scholarship from the Sparta Woman's Club.

Project Self-Sufficiency participant Vanessa Wintermute, 18, was recently awarded a scholarship by the Sparta Woman’s Club Education Committee in recognition of her desire to further her education. The Sparta Woman’s Club, a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs, offers scholarships to high school seniors as well as women who are returning to school. Recipients must be attending college, trade school or business school.

Wintermute plans on attending Sussex County Community College in the fall to begin her pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in psychology. “I always planned to go to college and I always planned to help people. I think my purpose in life is to help people who have gone through traumatic events in life or who have lost a loved one.” As part of her scholarship application, Wintermute penned an essay regarding the poem “Fearless Warrior”, noting that she identified with the unknown poet’s message. “You should always be prepared, but you don’t always have to be strong. No matter what you go through in life, you have to keep moving forward. Something excruciatingly painful today will make you a better and stronger person tomorrow.”

Wintermute’s scholarship application was impactful, according to Sparta Woman’s Club Education Committee Chairperson, Maureen Newman. “She seems very steadfast in what she wants to do and she has her career path planned out.” The funds from the Sparta Woman’s Club scholarship are earmarked for books and supplies.
